Genshin Impact will receive a downgraded version on PlayStation 4 and some mobile devices

While it seems we’re still a long way from Genshin Impact 5.0 (assuming we don’t miss a few iterations on the way to 4.6), it seems the number of breakthrough releases won’t be all good news, especially if you’re playing on a slightly older device.

HoYoVerse claims that Genshin players on PlayStation 4 and some older Android and iOS devices will see a drop in graphics quality as the game progresses.

In a post on HoYoLab, Genshin developers wrote: “Dear traveler, in the future version 5.0 of Genshin Impact, developers will be improving the overall visuals and features of the game.

This update will also mean higher performance requirements. In an effort to keep the minimum hardware requirements for version 5.0 unchanged, we will employ more stringent performance optimization strategies to ensure stable game performance after version updates.

The post further said: “Visual performance will be reduced (compared to the current version) after the 5.0 update on the above devices.

E.g.: When playing the game on the above-mentioned devices, the resolution of some image details and smaller objects will decrease, the effect range of some special effects will decrease, etc.

From this it appears that the effect doesn’t seem to be overly dramatic, at least initially, but as Genshin Impact approaches version 6 there is concern that support for these aging systems may eventually be dropped altogether as developers pushing for a better looking game overall.

Systems that will be affected by the Genshin downgrade

The following devices have been specifically mentioned as being affected in the future/

Models with an A12 (or lower) processor

Models with Snapdragon 865, Dimensity 1200 (8050), Kirin 9000SL or Samsung Exynos 1080 (or lower)

PlayStation 4 series (all)
