MetaMask Releases New Update, IOS Users Can Buy Cryptocurrencies Using Apple Pay

JAKARTA – MetaMask has released an update that allows iPhone and Apple Pay users to purchase cryptocurrencies with a credit card through an app on their smartphone. This latest update was announced by MetaMask via its official social media on Twitter on Monday, March 29.

The main feature of this update is the ability to purchase cryptocurrencies using a debit or credit card through the mobile app. Therefore, this update will eliminate the need to transfer Ethereum from a centralized exchange like Coinbase to the app.

MetaMask uses two payment gateways, namely Wyre and Transak, to process transactions using credit or debit cards. Digital wallet users can now use Visa and Mastercard linked to Apple Pay to purchase Ethereum. The maximum daily deposit to the wallet is USD 400 or IDR 5.7 million.

According to Cointelegraph, the gas fees charged are reportedly lower, and according to a MetaMask tweet, some transactions may even be gasless if they are performed on a private blockchain or if the project pays the gas fee on the user’s behalf. In finalizing the ETH purchase, MetaMask revealed that it does not profit from gas fees.

Stablecoin purchases can be made on the Ethereum network

Thanks to Transak, purchases of USDT, USDC and DAI stablecoins will be possible on the Ethereum network on MetaMask for some time. The latest update alone allows users to make bank transfers and use credit or debit cards to buy cryptocurrencies in over 60 global currencies. Additionally, users in the United States (US) can now also purchase Fantom and Avalanche native tokens.

James Beck, director of ConsenSys, maker of MetaMask, said the goal of the update is to improve accessibility and reduce friction in job interviews. The man also said that there will be more integrations coming soon that will “maximize” options and “streamline” crypto buying.

“We want to expand the way users can convert cryptocurrencies within the app itself and don’t have to leave the app,” he said.

In addition to this, MetaMask also tweeted about another “major” security update regarding token provisioning. Users can now “clearly see which contract is requesting” permissions and tag and save those contracts.

Beck says the most requested user requests were dark mode and “ven token.” Dark mode itself can be activated automatically when the iPhone’s operating system application.
