New colorful Nook device planned as Nook sales decline

Barnes & Noble’s Nook (devices and content) segment saw a decline of 50.4% compared to the same period last year, but the company revealed that it plans to launch a new color Nook device in the first quarter of 2015.

Commenting on its third quarter results, Barnes & Noble reported that with no new devices on the market, sales of devices and accessories dropped 58.2% compared to the third quarter of last year.

Content sales dropped 26.5 percent, which the company attributes to the fact that no new devices were released.

The Nook company has been struggling for some time and based on the latest data, it reconfirmed that its goal is to “reverse the decline in content sales” before confirming that a new device will be coming to market soon.

“We continue to strive to provide our customers with a world-class reading experience through our E Ink devices and color readers that focus on reading. The company is actively engaged in discussions with several world-class hardware partners in device development as well as content packaging and distribution. As a result, we plan to launch a new color Nook device in early fiscal year 2015,” said Michael P. Huseby, CEO of Barnes & Noble .

It is not entirely clear what the device will be – whether it will be a color tablet or a color e-book reader. Meanwhile, in the UK, Amazon has announced a limited 20 percent sale on Kindle Fire devices to coincide with the launch of Amazon Prime Instant Video.
