Tanja Meissner appointed director of Berlinale Pro and EFM

Tanja Meissner has been appointed director of Berlinale Pro and European Film Market (EFM) and will take up this position on May 13.

This revised role includes leading the European Film Market (EFM) while also taking on strategic leadership in the development of the Berlinale Pro consortium alongside the heads of the Berlinale Co-Production Market, Berlinale Talents and World Cinema Fund, who will report directly to her.

German-French dual national Meissner brings over 25 years of experience and deep knowledge of the film industry, both in production, distribution and exhibition.

Tricia Tuttle, festival director, said: “Tanja Meissner has an extremely strong reputation in the international film industry for her integrity, great taste and keen business sense. He offers a rare combination of top-level experience in sales and distribution, while combining it with an understanding of how to nurture new talent and support green shoots in the industry. All this is supported by a genuine and deep passion for cinema. I am keen to use our platforms at Berlinale to support the entire ecosystem, from filmmakers and rights holders to distributors, cinemas and audiences. I can’t imagine a better first appointment as director to help achieve this.”

Meissner added: “I am truly excited about this new opportunity to join the great and incredibly dedicated team that is already in place. I hold the Berlinale deep in my heart, as I started my professional career at Panorama in the 1990s. Over the years, I have participated in the festival in various roles, as a team member, industry representative or guest, thus combining a perhaps unusual 360° perspective. This new chapter brings together everything I am passionate about and have cherished over the years.”
