Manchester United softens its interest in Gareth Southgate while Erik ten Hag remains under pressure – Man United News And Transfer News

The INEOS era is well underway, with a slew of leadership appointments ensuring a brighter future for the off-field operation.

However, the question of who will remain on the bench and be responsible for planning operations on the pitch, i.e. the manager, still remains uncertain.

Erik ten Hag is not gaining any sponsorships as his team continues to stumble from one bad result to the next, and his performances are at a similar level and his performances could have a positive impact on his result in the summer.

As such, United have been linked with a number of potential successors, one of whom is current England manager Gareth Southgate.

While links with Southgate made sense due to his closeness to INEOS and Sir Dave Brailsford, the man himself has repeatedly downplayed the prospects.

Now it looks like United have returned the favor with this cold water, if recent reports are to be believed.

Football Insider reports that United are now ready to look elsewhere for potential replacements for Ten Hag, which will take Gareth Southgate out of the race.

Southgate will be busy with England duties until the end of July anyway, so any talks would take place later, which is not an ideal scenario for either side.

Instead, the leading candidate for the job is Thomas Tuchel following the decision made regarding Southgate.

Despite England reaching the latter stages of numerous international tournaments under his leadership, questions remain regarding his tactical management of the team, as well as his ability to cope with the club season.

He didn’t seem like a popular candidate to take over from Ten Hag, so this report will likely be well received by fans.

Meanwhile, Ten Hag still have three games left, including the increasingly important FA Cup final, after the league season was completely derailed.

Perhaps there is still hope that the Dutchman will convince his bosses that they do not need to look for a replacement.
